A DEATH IN THE FAMILY

Goldfish Joseph T. Collins Photo Researchers, Inc.

Archie the Goldfish died of natural causes this week. Actual age is unknown; however, he was adopted by FrenchToastGirl around 1989. Archie, in his youth, lived with Keanu (nee Fred), Betty and Veronica, all of whom passed before him.

Archie was an amazing survivor... Although FrenchToastGirl did not follow the traditional care that a goldfish needed, he thrived... in a small bowl filled with glowing green water. No toys, no sand, and when the water was eventually changed, he would swim cozily in a plastic drinking cup while waiting for the maid to finish her duties.

He was a quiet and constant companion to FTG, Chocolate Chip Boy (and myself when I lived with FTG for 6 years). Archie will be truly missed.
*************
The funeral was held in the backyard. There have been no memorial services planned.
(The above is not a photo of Archie... As he grew older, he grew bigger and his reddish color slowly turned to silver.)

Holy Underwear!
My friend Pandaberry belongs to a web chatroom for new mothers and one of the members kept on complaining about her "garmies" PB didn't really know what she was talking about and so asked me. I had a brief {get it?!} idea of what that was all about but did some additional research. Apparently Mormons or LDS receive these "garments" when they finished their misson or get married. It's kind of like special underwear which is blessed by their church leaders, and for the women worn under their bras. They have to wear them almost all the time including during sex. They have special religious symbols sewn on them and the women have a very large slit in the crotch area (see previous sentence). Being considered sacred, they are similar to wearing a cross for other types of Christians... they can protect you from harm. On 60 Minutes , Bill Marriott told Mike Wallace that the garments do offer protection. The owner of the Marriott hotel chain then related a fantastic story how, when he was in a fiery boating accident, his garments protected him from being burned.

So they released the locations of the KMarts that are closing... NJ is only losing three (Delran, Old Bridge, and Pennsauken). Phew, mine are still alive!

Yes, I know, I'm more of a Tar-zhay gal but I have already gone to the funerals of my best friends Caldor and Bradlee and can't handle any more pain.

PS: Can anyone explain the Kohl's phenomenon? It replaced the Caldor's by me in actual location but not in my heart... it's like a boring, slightly cheaper Macy's to me.

So this weekend, I discovered that 5 Long Island Ice Teas and a "Bowl of Berries" is a bad combination... my poor sis-in-law!

Other than that, things went fun and quickly... Saw Bad Medicine, a Bon Jovi tribute band at the Stone Pony with the gals while the guys learned remedial poker. The next morning (that would be 5 hours later), FrenchToastGirl had her baby shower. Why do showers always have to be so long? I'm known for not opening up presents in front of the person who gave them to me. Part of the reason is because I like having private moments with myself, the other is that I don't hide my emotions well so that if the gift sucks, the gifter will know it. When I finally have a shower, it's going to be so quick, 'cause all it's going to be is a party with stuff that I'll open up later. Ya, it'll piss some people off. But hey it's my party!

Sunday, Lucky and I walked on water... the local lake had frozen over big time and about 100 people were skating on it. Then of course it was Super Bowl Sunday at the CakeDoctor's house. Yummy chili and cornbread. (ok so this was not a weekend for NutriSystem... but I swear I'm doing pretty well)

Well, last night went pretty well. Played a rousing game of "Who Would You Do?" You're given a choice of two people you had to choose to sleep with and everyone has to guess who you choose... Biggest surprise of the night was that Baloo, if given the choice between Michelle Pheiffer and Kim Basinger would choose CELIBACY!!!

On Thursday, Lucky will be hosting The Weekly Game Night. For dinner, he's planning to make Macaroni and Cheese from scratch! Of course, knowing this made me want to search the web for all things mac and cheesy...

According to the Great and Currently Free-Air-Breathing Martha, the only way to serve Macaroni and Cheese is in a an exclusive Drabware-colored enamel castiron Le Creuset rectangular baker pan for a mere $125.000!

Take the What Kind of Macaroni and Cheese Are You? Quiz

THIS IS ME= "Ahh, you are "Velveta Shells and Cheese". You are expensive, no denying this, but its the price you pay for quality. Youdon't even require other food supplies. Water and a pan is all you need to get by. That silver bag your cheese comes in looks like something out of the 23rd century, but it's cool! And those crevices in the shells hold the cheese so well... You Rock!" Created by LJ User RobProv222

Speaking of Velveeta, it just so happens to be one of my favorite "cheeses". My mother would add it to everything from Campbell's chicken noodle soup to her special spaghetti sauce. I learned how to make Velveeta shells and cheese from scratch from my first boyfriend who was so poor he lived in the dorm's lounge. You have to know the right amount of cheese to butter when you make the sauce; it's definitely a fine art!

For other things cheesy: Try www.CheesyJesus.com for all your glow-in-the-dark and bobbing religious goods.

A SAD DAY

Al Hirschfeld died today. At 99, he still seemed too young to go. Perhaps it was the way he saw his life, how he viewed his drawings...

"It's not work. Work to me is something you don't want to do, but you have to do it to live. But what I do, I would do whether anybody wanted it or didn't want it." It's just a great attitude to have.

Well, New Year's went as it was supposed to... I got to get that much awaited First Kiss of 2003 from Lucky. And although the weather was ucky, we still managed to enjoy the day.

Of course, a few days later was Epiphany also known as "The Day that Lucky Revealed His Feelings". Wow, has it really been a year since we started dating? Had a wonderful dinner, complete with tasting some January flakes (according to many, the tastiest of the year) falling from the sky.

I am trying to lose some of the 30 pounds of happiness that I gained this year. It's the second week into Nutrisystem and I already have cheated numerous times... but I will not forsake my active social life for thin-being. I'm figuring as long as I'm good most of the time.... it's better than doing nothing. We will see.
